Summary
The Layer Farm Supervisor will manage a group of staff on multiple farm sites. The Layer Farm Supervisor will develop work schedules, assign, monitor production, implement new procedures, assist with budgets, track expenses, monitor variances, coach, and train staff. The Layer Farm Supervisor will work as part of a team ensuring the company's animal husbandry practices are followed as well as promoting safe work practices of staff.
Schedule
The work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday working 40 hours per week. Daily start and end times are flexible and can be negotiated with your manager. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on business needs.
Position Accountabilities
Oversee and manage bird production for all layer barns in Nova Scotia.
Research and implement new equipment or techniques to maintain animal welfare and operational needs.
Monitor barn conditions and production data.
Develop and maintain annual NS Layer barn operations budget.
Maintain quality control and production records.
Foster a positive team environment that promotes teamwork.
Ensure optimal barn conditions prior to bird placement by completing inspections.
Create staff and operation schedules to optimize performance.
Hire, onboard, and train employees to meet staffing needs.
Provide leadership and coaching to employees to promote their professional growth and development and performance.
Promote safe work practices.
Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry.
Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential.
Ensure bio security protocols are adhered to.
Follow all safety processes and procedures.
All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Ideal candidate has one (1) year experience in a leadership role.
Post-secondary education in Agriculture field or equivalent experience is mandatory.
Willingness to work with live poultry.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Valid drivers' license with a clean drivers abstract required.
Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
Pleasant, outgoing personality, with a friendly positive approach to employee relations.
Ability to make decisions under pressure.
High attention to detail.
Problem solving skills.
Mechanical abilities.
Working Conditions
The position operates indoors in an office environment where sitting for long periods of time is common. May need to provide hands-on support in a farm/barn environment. Work environment may be warm and humid, cold in the winter months, dusty at times with strong odours, and noisy. Standing for long periods of time and repetitive tasks are common. Proper safety footwear and respirators are required and supplied with additional PPE available upon request.
