The City of Edmonton's Legal Services Branch acts as a full-service law firm for the City, which employs over 10,000 employees and has a total budget in excess of $1.2 billion. Virtually all legal work for the City is handled in-house by Legal Services Branch lawyers. As a summer student with the City of Edmonton, you will have an opportunity to work in multiple areas covered by the Legal Services Branch, including:

Commercial and real estate transactions Finance and investment advising Public-private partnerships Expropriation law Bylaw drafting Intellectual property law Tendering and procurement Corporate structure and governance issues Personal injury litigation Real property litigation Construction litigation Bylaw challenges, enforcement and prosecutions Assessment and taxation; and Human resources and employment advising/hearings

Throughout the summer you will be assigned various tasks under the supervision of our lawyers. You will find that the lawyers in the Branch have an open-door policy, and are willing to spend time with students to assist and direct them.

Qualifications

:Applicants must currently be, or have been, enrolled in a Faculty of Law at an accredited post-secondary institution Experience using Google Workspace applications and legal research software programs

Assets:



Experience in Student Legal Services, particularly court experience
