Position: Language and Culture Connector (x2) Department: Education and Social Development Term: Full Time Permanent Start: ASAP Reporting to the Associate Director of Education and Social Development, the Language and Culture Connector will work collaboratively to provide, or arrange for, the dissemination of KDFN cultural, linguistic and traditional knowledge, within the scope of early learning, school age and community education. Services and programs, based on Traditional Ways of Knowing, will be provided through consultation with educators, Elders and KDFN Language and Culture staff. The development, implementation and modeling of cultural programming, along with the cultural and linguistic mentoring of staff and community are key duties of this position. The Language and Culture Connector will respectfully develop and provide opportunities that will support the cultural, emotional, physical, cognitive and social needs of the KDFN children, youth and their families. A client-centered, team approach is central to quality service delivery and to the establishment and implementation of Departmental mandates, as set out in the KDFN strategic plan. We are seeking candidates with good organizational skills, with the ability to enhance cultural awareness and appreciation in all aspects of programming and who meet some/all of the following qualifications. Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent Post-Secondary education in, Indigenous Studies, First Nation Language or equivalent and has considerable experience working in a First Nations\xe2\x80\x99 School-Age Education setting, as an Early Childhood Educator or in a First Nations\xe2\x80\x99 cultural capacity delivering programming;
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing strategies to support learning in early-learning settings, adult education and for lifelong learning success;
  • Knowledge of and experience sharing / teaching culture (or language), and in incorporating First Nation ways of learning, knowing, doing and being to compliment modern ways life;
  • Experience developing learning materials and contributing to curriculum implementation;
  • Experience with planning and coordinating projects and events;
  • Administrative and financial management skills including budgeting, monitoring, reporting and record keeping;
  • Experience facilitating presentations and workshops;
  • First Nation language fluency or working to develop language fluency. Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history, culture, goals, self-government and of the impact of residential school;

  • An equivalent combination of education and significant experience in the areas identified above will be equally considered.
Conditions of Employment: Satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search; Yukon Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License (Class 4 an asset); Current satisfactory driver\'s abstract; Standard First Aid & CPR; Proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations. Job requirements: sporadic evening or weekend work is required to attend meetings and deliver cultural programming outside of regular hours. Salary: $68,286.40 - $100,602.68 per annum ($37.52-$55.28 per hour) (Level 6) *Plus Benefits Closing Date: Thursday, February 9th, 2023 at 4:30pm
