JOB SUMMARY



As a Language Administrator you will support the Senior Language Administrator with all aspects language and cultural projects including, timely completion of language and cultural requests, provision of technical and learning supports to participants enrolled in the CAN-8, online, nsyilxwc?n language learning program, ongoing digitization and archiving of language and cultural resources, delivery of community presentations on various topics related to sqilxw history, culture, and, language, and reporting of all data required for quarterly reporting and funding reports. These programs are technical in nature and require close attention to detail and ongoing technical support for users and teachers.



REPORTING STRUCTURE



Reports to the Senior Language Administrator, and works closely with Language and Cultural Lead, Adult & Youth Language Instructors and Language Nest program staff.



JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Set-up and conduct interviews with Fluent speakers Seek-out innovative research methods focused on conserving cultural heritage Recording, editing, and uploading oral language interviews Deliver language and cultural program presentations to community as requested Classify, code, cross reference, log, and store all language and cultural records Maintain access lists for security classified records Gather, process and catalogue audio/video media for digitization and archiving Digitize media from a variety of formats; VHS, DVD and DV family, audio cassettes etc. Manage completed digitized files Participates in community events as needed Supports the Senior Language Administrator with organizing the Elders Advisory Group and Language and Culture Committee on language and culture Maintain a positive role model for practicing language and culture Participate in staff nsyilxwc?*n language classes
Work closely with external organizations to support proper language and place translations. Transports Elders/Knowledge Keepers to language meetings and cultural events, when necessary Must be available to support evening / weekend programs/activities Performs other related duties as required including occasional heavy lifting All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.




ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES



Maintain and update all audio/visual records Sort and file documents according to a prescribed filing system File all language research material in archives (converting files if necessary) Locate and remove material from files when requested Keep records of materials organized, cataloged and accessible Attend meetings as requested Completes payment vouchers or purchase orders Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with OKIB policies and procedures Perform other duties as required Work collaboratively with other Language and Cultural Team members




WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR



You have education, experience, or an equivalent combination may be considered. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, have a willingness to contribute to a team and an excellent communicator.



Education




Library Archivist or related technical diploma preferred Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a reliable vehicle Knowledge of the Okanagan Language and Culture Knowledge in computer programs including Microsoft Office, Audacity, Final Cut Pro, Adobe and CKK. Preference for CAN-8 Technical Training or willing to obtain An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered




Experience




Experience recording with working with fluent speakers, especially Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Research experience Database management and archivist experience Knowledge and experience in Okanagan language and culture Committed nsyilxwc?*n language learner
Experience working with First Nations communities Minimum 2-5 years of technical computer skills an/or library archivist experience (comfortable dealing with technical issues and cataloguing digitized materials) Knowledge in working with technical equipment including cameras, recorders, mics, drones and computers.
