We are seeking a Land & Planning Coordinator to support land planning and development activities for upcoming parcels and projects. This role works closely with clients, consultants, municipalities, and internal teams and is well suited to someone looking to build experience across the land development lifecycle -- from early concept and approvals through to site improvement execution.
The Land & Planning Coordinator assists with pre-construction planning, zoning and municipal submissions, budgeting support, and coordination as projects transition toward construction.
Some projects involve non-profit and faith-based organizations. Candidates should be comfortable supporting projects for clients within this sector and engaging respectfully with their organizational structures and values.
Key Responsibilities
Land Planning & Pre-Construction
Support land planning activities for new parcels and development projects from early concept through approvals
Assist clients during pre-construction planning as they progress through planning and design stages
Coordinate information between clients, planners, engineers, and internal stakeholders
Support preparation and review of planning and design documentation
Zoning & Municipal Approvals
Assist with zoning reviews, development applications, and municipal submissions
Support processing and sequencing of zoning and planning procedures
Track application status, municipal comments, and approval timelines
Coordinate responses to municipal requests in collaboration with consultants and internal teams
Budgeting & Site Planning
Assist with preliminary budgeting and planning for site improvements, including servicing, earthworks, and civil scopes
Support cost tracking and planning activities during early project phases
Maintain organized records of estimates, approvals, and supporting documentation
Site Improvements & Coordination
Assist with coordination of site improvement activities as projects move toward execution
Support scheduling, consultant coordination, and information flow during site servicing and civil work
Help monitor progress and identify coordination issues for escalation
General Coordination
Maintain organized project files, correspondence, and documentation
Support internal reporting and project updates
Assist with continuous improvement of planning and coordination processes
Skills & Requirements
Working knowledge of Alberta planning legislation and municipal development processes
Understanding of zoning, development approvals, and land planning workflows
Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, consultants, project managers, foremen, and clients
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working with clients, consultants, and municipal stakeholders
Qualifications
Post-secondary education or diploma in Planning, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Urban Development, or a related field
2-5 years of experience in land development, planning, construction coordination, or a related role
Ability to read and interpret planning documents, zoning bylaws, and civil drawings is an asset
Experience with municipal applications or development approvals is an asset
Previous field or site-based experience in land development, civil construction, or related work is a strong asset
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience with Procore Construction Management software
Experience with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project and/or Smartsheet
