ROLE OVERVIEW
As Labourer you play a vital support role in the Construction division by assisting in construction activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Labourer is responsible for the following:
Reporting to the Foreperson, Pipe Layer, or Heavy Equipment Operator they have been scheduled to work with
Obtaining necessary tools
Working diligently, following instructions and anticipating and filling crew needs
Completing daily paperwork
Ensuring customer satisfaction by displaying courteous, friendly manner
Ensuring on-site quality control
Maintaining personal safety gear at all times (hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel toed boots)
Perform work in accordance with all organizational, as well as provincial and federal health and safety standards and legislation, ensuring highest standard of safety is upheld
Maintaining personal foul weather gear at all times (rain gear, rubber boots)
Demonstrate CME Personal Protective Equipment standard by attending morning meeting in hard hat, high-vis safety vest, steel toed boots, eye protection, gloves
Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas
Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites
Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt
Assist tradespersons such as carpenters in construction activities
Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and aid in other activities
Assist in aligning pipes and perform related activities during hydro, telephone, sewer, and water pipeline construction
Assist in drilling and blasting rock at construction sites
Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel
Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools, and sort, clean and pile salvaged materials
Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed
Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps
Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants, and remove asbestos and other hazardous materials
Oil and grease hoists and similar equipment
Direct traffic at or near construction sites
Perform other activities at construction sites, as
Arriving at scheduled assembly point on time and ready for work

Operation of hand tools and other skills specific to the position
QUALIFICATIONS
Physically fit with strong stamina
Minimum 16 years of age
Prior work experiences an asset, but we welcome all those with a willingness to work hard and learn; on-the-job training is provided
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$28.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience and education
Vacation pay (calculated at 4% of total wages earned)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Hours of work: generally, 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday
Overtime required during busy construction periods
