Labourer (Laundry Worker)
Primary Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide laundry-related services for the Veterinary Medical Centre.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Supervisor, Medical Device Reprocessing, this position works as an integral member of the team to provide high-quality control in laundry supply, particularly as it relates to care and control of operating room linen. This position works in an animal facility with small animals (canine, feline, avian, and some exotics) and large animals (bovine, equine, caprine, porcine, ovine and some exotics), which exposes employees to the unpredictability of animals, dander, and waste. It requires a substantial amount of lifting, moving, and cleaning of equipment/work area and is subject to dress code, traffic pattern restrictions and compliance with biosecurity policies.
Accountabilities:

  • Daily pick up, proper laundering (including cleaning, drying, folding) and delivery of linen
  • Ensure adequate supply of clean linen supplies throughout the hospital
  • Ensures linen requiring mending is sent for repair
  • Respond to requests for service/information as necessary
  • Maintain accurate written and computerized records as necessary
  • Maintain cooperative working relations with students, staff, and faculty
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education: Completion of Grade 12
Experience: Previous experience working in a laundry facility or medical clinic preferred, but not necessary.
Skills:
  • Demonstrated effective organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to adapt and work in a dynamic environment, maintaining a professional and positive demeanour;
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member with limited supervision;
  • Ability to perform moderate physical labour.

Status: Term 12 months with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent

Shift: Monday to Friday varying hours, and potentially weekends
Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0
Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $20.38 - 23.75 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
