As a Labourer II within the Fabrication Technologies section of Fleet Services, you will support operations by disseminating information from blueprints in order to cut, form and drill various materials for fabrication purposes. You will provide assistance to trades workers, use a variety of hand tools and machinery, and assemble fabricated items both in the shop and in the field.
What will you do?
• Use tools and equipment to perform various tasks
• Read blueprints in order to cut, drill, and punch various materials for fabrications purposes
• Arrange products to be painted and package finished products for shipping
• Support trades workers as required, both in the shop and out in the field, to effectively perform required tasks to successfully complete the job/project
• Perform sandblasting, grinding, and cleanup of various projects
• The ability to complete tasks/projects independently, assemble fabricated items made in the shop and in the field
• Install and remove decals and striping to fleet vehicles
• Use a variety of hand tools, operate various pieces of equipment, including forklift, crane and shop vehicles
• Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications :• Completion of Grade 10
• One year of experience working in a fabrication shop and familiarity with fabrication shop operations
Assets:
• Current and valid Forklift Operating Certificate
• Class 3 license with Air Brake endorsement
Skills required for success:
• Understand the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in fabrication shop operations
• Interpret blueprints, measure accurately, and maintain simple records
• Adhere to all safety regulations in a fabrication, construction, and heavy equipment environment
• Proficiently use the necessary hand and power tools for work assignments
• Good communication skills, including the ability to understand and provide verbal and written instructions
• Good time management and organizational skills, including the ability to organize assigned work tasks in a cost-effective and time-sensitive way
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with diverse people
• Strong problem solving skills
• Competent computer skills for work order management, data entry, and communication
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including heavy lifting; the successful candidate must pass a job-related physical abilities evaluation and a City medical examination
• Ability to wear a custom-fit respirator for extended periods of time

Conditions of Employment:
• Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
• Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
• Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
• Conditions may include: heat, cold, wet, dust, noise, and diesel exhaust fumes
