Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.
SCOPE:
The Labourer assists in day-to-day requirements at the NWS sites. Immediate openings available!
Incumbents must be comfortable working in colder, extreme arctic climates. All travel to/from site, including board and meals, is provided.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support for any general site maintenance
• Loading and unloading of cargo, materials, supplies and equipment
• Painting
• Shoveling, snow removal
• Fueling vehicles, running errands, processing deliveries
• Assisting trades and other site colleagues
• Site safety and emergency response
• First aid if and when required
• Perform other related tasks that are unplanned or transient in nature

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
• Knowledge of basic safety measures is an asset; able to work safely at all times
• Ability to effectively work in a team environment
• Ability to perform physical job functions in all weather conditions (able to lift up to 50 lbs)
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is an asset
• Basic computer skills are an asset
• Willingness to learn and participate in training

COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and travel as part of a small team to adjacent work locations
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required
• Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations
• Position is reserved for* Inuit Land Claim Beneficiaries*

Further Details:

• Rotational 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off available - 48 hours per week Monday to Saturday where you fly to an LRR for 6 weeks, board and meals included; then you are off for 6 weeks - these rotations may be shortened for Inuit candidates based on individual needs
