As a Medical Laboratory Technologist II - Department of Specialized Diagnostics (MLT II) you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of routine and specialized microbiological tests and procedures consistent with technical knowledge/skills required for the department, in order to deliver accurate, timely results to clients. As an MLT II, you will provide leadership and guidance within the department as part of daily laboratory activities. In addition, the Laboratory Technologist II will be knowledgeable in the following areas, including but not limited to: reviewing test results; evaluating and suggesting follow-up of abnormal test results under direction of a supervisor; reviewing, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment; reviewing records and QC; and assisting Clinical Supervisor in making changes to existing protocols.

Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
3-5 years current clinical experience in a large Microbiology Laboratory. Minimum of three-year experience in Public Health Laboratory. Minimum of three-year experience specifically in Specialized Diagnostic area. Expertise in areas including PCR, rt-PCR, RT-PCR, Nucleic Acid Extraction, Whole Genome Sequencing, sample processing and instrument troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a supervisory role. Process Excellence and Change Management training. Experience with College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation program. Familiar with the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act (HPTA) program components.
