Reporting to the FMC Clinical Hematology Supervisor, this position is responsible for coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring, and participating in the work performed in the area of charge. The Laboratory Technologist II (MLT II) - Hematology, under the guidance of the supervisor and/or medical lead - will be involved in evaluating, monitoring, developing and modifying the laboratory department and its policies and procedures. The MLT II demonstrates initiative in tracking and resolving problems, and continually checks the accuracy of processes, test methods, and instruments in the section. This position validates and assesses methods, procedures, and equipment, liaises with technical representatives, QC and reagent manufacturers or distributors, and CSPM to resolve problems associated with instrumentation or supplies. The MLT II assesses unusual or abnormal findings and communicates these to the supervisor, physician and/or Hematopathologist as appropriate. Performs and documents quality control and quality assurance practices and assures they are adhered to. Creates and reviews technical procedures according to defined standards and accreditation requirements. Provides feedback, coaching and support to staff and communicates to supervisor to assist with completing performance conversations. Coordinates delivery of training and competency programs to ensure staff and students are proficient and qualified in technical skills, and all health and safety procedures. Assist in collecting and compiling statistics aimed at demonstrating performance or improving operations. Produces work schedule/bench rotations and works with the supervisor to ensure adequate operational coverage while complying with the respective collective agreement and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years hematology experience within the last 5 years. Extensive knowledge of hematology and coagulation methodology and instrumentation specific to the Hematology department. Working knowledge of laboratory and operational best practices, accreditation requirements and respective collective agreement. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, AHS privacy trained, strong computer skills using spreadsheets, word processing and presentation applications such as MS Word, Excel, MS365, MS Teams, Sharepoint and PowerPoint. Well-developed skills in prioritizing, organization, decision making and time management. Excellent written/verbal communication and analytical skills. Able to adapt quickly and effectively in a busy, high demand testing department. Able to work both independently and as a team member while leading by example.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of hematology experience in a high-volume, complex setting. Completion of leadership training in team building, communication, conflict resolution, and change management. Recent leadership experience within the past five years including coaching, mentoring, and staff development. Skilled in Sysmex and ACL Coagulation analyzers, Caresphere and Cellavision.
