The town of Canmore is located approximately 80km west of Calgary nestled among Alberta’s Rocky Mountain Range. With a population of 14,000 Canmore offers many city amenities while still maintaining rural charm. The Canmore hospital provides the Bow Valley with a variety of services including Acute Care, Long Term Care, Emergency, Labor and Delivery as well as hospital outpatient services and public health. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts and on-call (as needed). Reporting directly to the on-site senior technologist and the Regional Rural Supervisor, the MLT will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies. Relocation assistance may be available with a Return of Service Agreement.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Additional Required Qualifications: Proven ability to work within a computer based environment. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members of other departments in a fast pace changing environment. Demonstrate proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen procurement and handling, and transfusion medicine. Must be proficient in phlebotomy. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Demonstrated ability to organize, set priorities and multitask. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace. Demonstrate a customer service attitude and delivery of excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer (internal and external) client needs by means of building productive and respectful customer relations and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction. Demonstrated personal leadership, regardless of role, by leading themselves through change, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. Recent Experience or Training in Chemistry and Hematology Departments. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 1 year experience within Rural laboratory preferred. Minimum 1 year Millennium LIS experience preferred. Recent experience within a Calgary Zone Transfusion Medicine Department preferred.
