Your Opportunity:

This Laboratory Technologist I position is responsible for all aspects of specimen preparation and testing including specialized tandem mass spectrometry procedures. Requires lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing more than 20 lbs is required for MLT duties. Required to handle and dispose hazardous materials including chemicals and biohazards. May be required to handle compressed gases therefore should have clear understanding of safety precautions. The successful candidate will also be performing additional duties including but not limited to quality control, proficiency testing, equipment trouble-shooting and maintenance, student training, patient records management and computer functions. Also, under the direction of the medical/scientific staff you may be required to work on special projects. This position will include shifts at the Analytical Toxicology (DSC) and Pharmacokinetics Lab (TBCC) departments. You must be organized, independent individual and a strong team player committed to providing quality patient care. You understand and maintain a working knowledge of analytics techniques and demonstrate excellent problem-solving, decision making and trouble-shooting skills. You will be required to maintain a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures. Your communication and interpersonal skills enable you to deal courteously, respectfully and tactfully with team members and other Alberta Precision Laboratory, including internal and external stakeholders. This position reports to the Senior Technologist II, Supervisor and/or Manager.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum 1-year experience within the last three years in immunochemistry, pharmacokinetics, analytical toxicology, or chemistry. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone or in writing in an accurate and clear concise manner. The successful candidate must be well organized, flexible and able to prioritize and work under pressure plus multi-task. Must possess good technical problem-solving skills. Must possess the ability to promote positive working relationships. Demonstrates and promotes the APL values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility and Accuracy. Computer literacy and keyboarding skills are required. Preferred Qualifications: Previous tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) experience is highly preferred. Working knowledge of extractions such as solid phase, dilute and shoot techniques. Hands-on knowledge of tests such as Immunosuppressants, Renal Calculi, etc. Working knowledge of the Hamilton Nimbus workstation is value-added. Knowledge of software such as Mass Hunter, Mass Lynx, Nimbus Method Editor, etc.
