Your opportunity:

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP) occupies a unique position at the interface between basic biomedical science and clinical practice. We are an assembly of over 350 investigators, scientists, and clinicians, who educate and mentor trainees pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical studies, engaged in investigating disease mechanisms and patterns and translating new knowledge and discoveries into improved health outcomes for patients and populations.

As Laboratory Technician, you will support the Lee lab, focusing on primarily expressing and purifying proteins from eukaryotic or prokaryotic cell cultures. Relying on your sharp technical, detailed organizational and clear communication skills, you will conduct collaborative research and coordinate the purchasing of supplies, general lab operations/cleanup, oversight of undergraduate work study students, and maintenance of equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Applying established standards when preparing routine samples for projects and research experiments
  • Selecting and preparing equipment for routine experiments and assays and collaborating to determine lab set up requirements
  • Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols
  • Troubleshooting issues with lab equipment and workstations
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years relevant experience in a research laboratory setting
  • Experience in maintaining general cell culture (e.g., insect, yeast and/or mammalian cell lines)
  • Experience in routine expression of proteins in eukaryotic (insect, yeast, CHO and/or HEK293) adherent and suspension cell lines
  • Experience in routine purification of proteins from cells (e.g., Ni-affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography)
  • Experience maintaining laboratory records, and collecting, maintaining and verifying laboratory results
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting general lab instruments (e.g., centrifuge, pH meter, scales, fridges/freezers, rockers, chromatography systems) and cell culture equipment (e.g., orbital shakers, bioreactors, incubators, tangential flow filtration system)
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills; and ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure with scientific deadlines
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues
  • Excellent manual dexterity required
