Position Summary:
The newly established Thebault Lab at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) focuses on immune cell profiling and protein biomarker development in multiple sclerosis (MS) and related neuroinflammatory disorders.
As the lab is in its start-up phase, the technician will play a foundational role in setting up lab infrastructure, establishing SOPs, and helping bridge clinical and research operations.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge translational science within a collaborative environment, working closely with the Stratton and Zandee labs, CBIG biobank, and clinical teams
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lab Setup and OperationsAssist in initial lab setup, including equipment onboarding, workspace organization, and SOP development.
Oversee day-to-day lab operations: Ordering consumables and equipment, managing sample inventories (PBMC, CSF, serum, plasma), monitoring freezers and liquid nitrogen storage, help maintain compliance with biosafety, ethics approvals, consent forms, and MTAs.
2. Sample Handling and Immunology AssaysProcess and cryopreserve blood and CSF specimens, including PBMCs, serum, and plasma.
Perform and optimize flow cytometry and other cellular immunology assays.
Support immune cell culture and stimulation workflows.
Participate in advanced assay development: Spectral flow, CITE-seq, PRIME Flow, ddPCR, Olink, and Simoa.
3. Clinical-Research Integration (Occasional)Serve as backup for patient consent and sample collection, when core clinical systems are unavailable.
Coordinate sample transport and processing, ensuring time-sensitive handling.
Extract relevant clinical data from the McGill electronic health registry under supervision.
4. Training, Supervision, and Team CultureOnboard and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Support skill development and enforce good lab practices.
Foster a collaborative and supportive lab environment.
5. Communication and CollaborationInterface professionally with clinicians, MRI technologists, and other research teams.
Communicate effectively across shared lab spaces and the CBIG infrastructure.
Assist with occasional recruitment-related tasks and contribute to clinic-lab coordination.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:BSc or MSc in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
At least 1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Proficiency with flow cytometry and basic immunology techniques.
Experience handling clinical biospecimens (PBMCs, serum, CSF).
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with reliability under time-sensitive conditions.
Availability for occasional late-day work (up to 2 days/week), with advance scheduling.
Ability to adapt to shifting clinical workflows and unexpected logistical challenges.
Bilingualism (English/French) is required
Desirable ExperienceExperience in immune cell culture and stimulation assays.
Familiarity with advanced assay platforms (CITE-seq, ddPCR, proteomics).
Previous involvement in biobank management or clinical data systems (e.g., LIMS, REDCap).
Administrative experience with ethics renewals, MTAs, or lab compliance.
Personal AttributesPositive, proactive, and solution-oriented.
Able to work independently and take initiative when the PI is away on clinical or research duties.
Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative translational science.
Enthusiastic about contributing to impactful MS and neuroimmunology research.
