Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Status: Full-Time The Atlantic Cancer Research Institute (ACRI) is a private, non-profit medical research organization located in Moncton, New Brunswick. ACRI contributes to finding solutions for cancer through innovative and interdisciplinary research, transferring innovation to patient care and the training of future researchers. ACRI is seeking a full time Laboratory Operations Manager to support ACRI Scientists, staff and affiliated partners in day-to-day lab operations, with a focus on biosafety and health and safety. ACRI is committed to providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. The responsibilities include:

  • Implement lab systems / logistics;
  • Perform lab tasks including but not limited to SOP development, record keeping, waste disposal, infrastructure improvement proposals, containment level (CL1, CL2 and CL2+) infrastructure oversight, etc., and direct and delegate routine lab tasks to staff;
  • Liaise with appropriate individuals (internal and external) for building and infrastructure maintenance;
  • Participate in the validation of new or existing laboratory equipment, as well as maintenance and repair of equipment;
  • Purchase lab supplies and monitor and maintain supply stocks, meet with vendors;
  • Implement and ensure fulfillment of rules and regulations regarding workplace health and safety, and biosecurity (candidate will lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee and be the designated Biosafety Officer);
  • Support the laboratory onboarding process for new personnel and students;
  • Provide support to research assistants, research associates, and scientific staff by ensuring consistent lab operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or Biochemistry with a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience; or a Master of Science degree in Biology or Biochemistry with a minimum of 2 years related experience;
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments, equipment and computers (e.g. databases and spreadsheets);
  • Familiarity with scientific procedures typically acquired through academic training;
  • Recent GHS (Globally Harmonized System) certification;
  • Demonstrated excellent organization, communication, and management skills;
  • An ability to communicate in both English and French would be considered an asset;
  • Previous experience as lab manager in an academic or industrial setting would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to physically perform the work;
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada.
