Laboratory Metrologist (Maintenance Technician)

Gilead in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is seeking a motivated, professional, and experienced individual to assume the role of Metrologist in Gilead\xe2\x80\x99s Maintenance and Engineering department.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, attention to detail, and an understanding of working in a regulated environment. The Metrology group at Gilead provides technical and administration support for all scientific instrumentation at the site, so there is a strong focus on customer service provided to all instrumentation users at the site. Addressing concerns, ensuring timely communication, and taking custody of issues in a professional and courteous manner are all critical for this position.

Location Background:

Gilead\xe2\x80\x99s manufacturing facility in Edmonton, Alberta, is responsible for the development and manufacturing of investigational drugs. We supply active pharmaceutical ingredients for clinical research programs and contribute supplies for new product launches (#LI-DNP). Specific Responsibilities:

Performing routine calibrations, qualifications, preventative maintenance, and repairs on various analytical laboratory equipment including but not limited to: HPLC, GC, NMR, Titration, Balances, pH, FTIR, VKF, CKF, Conductivity Meter, Rotavap, LOD, & UV/Vis.

Supporting installation of new equipment and performing testing as per written protocols.

Troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment and software problems.

Dismantling and reassembling analytical laboratory instruments for purposes of repair and maintenance; initiating and completing repairs and adjustments as necessary.

Sending select equipment offsite for calibration or repair (external calibrations); initiating purchase requisitions as necessary.

Providing contractor support (day-to-day support including: contractor training records, work permit issuance, coordinating with QC and PDM to ensure systems are booked off and available, ensuring hardware is prepped prior to qualification, providing parts and tools support for onsite contractors, unpacking new equipment, new equipment bench setup, tabulating new equipment).

External contractor data package reviews and corrections to maintain GMP compliance.

Maximo database management: equipment record updating, work order compliance, and metrics.

Metrology parts and supplies inventory keeping: ordering, organizing, and maintaining.

Knowledge & Skills

Performing regular GMP documentation reviews to maintain compliance.

Writing and editing procedures and qualification protocols.

Adhering to established practices, policies, and procedures in a regulated laboratory environment.

Maintaining metrology documentation library: calibration and repair records, reference manuals, and new equipment documentation.

Providing general administrative support: scanning and archiving of metrology records (service reports, qualification records, work permits, etc.).

Required Education & Experience:

*Academic Level : Minimum 2 year degree

Ideally 3+ years of relevant experience, however new graduates will be considered.

Diploma or Degree from fields of Chemistry or Instrumentation or Electronics

Preferred Experience:

Work experience in a regulated laboratory under GMP or GLP guidelines is preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audience.

Customer service oriented with attention to detail is critical.
