This is a working level Laboratory Assistant I position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of procedures within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). Qualified MLA's will be considered for this position. Applicants must be able to perform all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA including all specimen procurement and blood collection procedures as well as cardiology and urinalysis including microscopic analysis. Olds Hospital and Care Centre is a busy site where you will work both independently and as part of a team utilizing your organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited urinalysis course including microscopic analysis. Urinalysis experience including microscopic analysis is required. Cardiology training and experience including ECG's and Holter Monitors. Able to perform all blood collection procedures including: venipuncture, micro-punctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Connect Care Epic is an asset. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Experience using MUSE and Cardioday applications. Familiar with Clinitek Advantus.
