The beautiful town of Castor has an exciting position available for the position of Combined Lab/X-Ray Technician I (CLXT) at our small but busy Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital. This dynamic role is perfect for an individual who is passionate about learning, adaptable, reliable, and can demonstrate initiative while working under pressure and in emergency situations when required. With your experience as a CLXT, you will perform procedures in a core laboratory and general diagnostic imaging. In addition to your strong attention to detail and good judgement, you have strong organizational and communication skills that enable you to work collaboratively with others. You will be working with a small Lab/DI team of three that works closely with nursing and other health care professionals. The position includes day shifts during the week and evening call, as well as one in three weekends on call with a 30-minute response time required. As a CLXT, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging for rural sites. A member of the inter-professional team, you will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting of biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, performing ECGs and Holter monitors. This location, about 1.5 hours away from Camrose, is the only community collection in the area so you will see lots of patients and quickly grow your skillset. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications: Grade 12 Diploma. Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program which includes specimen handling and phlebotomy. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Recent, relevant experience performing procedures in a core laboratory, within the past two years. Laboratory procedures include phlebotomy (venipuncture and micropuncture), specimen collection, preparation and referral. Experience performing ECG and Holter monitoring testing. Ability to understand and follow instruction and procedures. Effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Proficiently operate a computer to input patient data. Ability to work collaboratively and tactfully in a pleasant manner with patients/clients, families, staff members and personnel from other departments in a fast paced, changing environment. Evidence of initiative and flexibility. Evidence of thoroughness, accuracy, speed and attention to detail in performance of duties. Evidence of responsibility in dealing with confidential information. Ability to work under pressure and in emergent situations, demonstrating tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, staff and physicians. Preferred Qualifications: Meditech and Connect Care LIS experience is an asset. Possibility of working casual at Coronation and Consort as well.
