Together we can create a better, more circular tomorrow.NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.As a member of the Manufacturing East Polyethylene Lab, reporting to the Coordinator, Quality Assurance, the Lab Technician will provide Quality Control and Quality Assurance support to our Polyethylene facilities at the Moore, Rokeby and St. Clair River Sites in St. Clair, Ontario.You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Adhere to NOVA Chemicals safety, health, and environment standards in the laboratory and onsite.
  • Perform routine and non-routine testing for in-process and finished product on specification and non-specification related properties using Melt Indexers, OCS optical equipment, FTIR, densitometers, hydraulic presses, colorimeters, and other equipment as per procedures.
  • Perform chemical analysis of process samples using gas chromatographs, auto titrators and other wet chemistry methods.
  • Validate testing equipment daily.
  • Make real-time decisions regarding product disposition (e.g., product grading, blending consultations).
  • Produce certified test results for product shipment release.
  • Enter test result data in SAP and maintains an effective log.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and test method problems.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and related testing and documentation.
  • Generate and analyzing statistical data to maintain quality control of existing equipment and testing procedures.
  • Take initiative to troubleshoot and address problem areas with equipment/procedures.
  • Maintain conformance to the ISO 9001-2015 standard.
  • Complete and maintain Lab and Responsible Care training requirements.
  • Be an Emergency Response Team member.
What We Are Looking For:
  • 3-year Diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care.
  • Strong attention to detail for accuracy of test results.
  • Preferred experience within the Petrochemical, Manufacturing, or related industry
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with plant operations, lab testing, and lab testing equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting, testing, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both in a team setting and individually with minimal supervision
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Additional Information:
  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotational shift schedule (including nights and weekends)
  • May be required to take temporary assignment day roles as part of the Laboratory progression system
  • Some lifting required to a maximum of 25 kg.
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear a respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, (e.g., gloves, uniforms, and other articles of safety clothing) as required by NOVA and regulatory agencies
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
