Program Eligibility:
  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available for the full-term duration.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, or valid work permit).

Your Opportunity at SECURE
This student role supports the research, development, and quality assurance of drilling fluid products by conducting laboratory testing, analyzing data, and preparing reports. The position also ensures proper laboratory practices through equipment maintenance, record-keeping, and adherence to safety protocols.
This role is based out of Calgary, Alberta
The Team
The Specialty Chemicals and Lab team at SECURE is a group of chemists, specialists, and technicians who drive innovation through rigorous R&D, testing, and quality assurance of custom and standard chemical products used in drilling, waste processing, and environmental applications.
They leverage state-of-the-art labs, analytical methods, and safety-minded practices to turn complex technical challenges into practical, high-performance solutions that support both environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
A Day in The Life
  • Field Level Hazard Assessment for daily tasks; hazard ID, near miss and incident reporting if applicable
  • Timesheet recording of project hours
  • Lab equipment and lab instrument cleaning and maintenance (daily and monthly tasks)
  • Lab work record keeping and organization (lab book entries, spreadsheets, pictures, etc.)
  • General lab cleaning and tidying
  • Reading and reviewing literature papers, documents, SOPs, etc.
  • Sample login, storage and disposal
  • Lab project and QA/QC work
  • Data analysis and report writing
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory setting and following safety practices
  • Basic experience handling chemicals and using standard lab procedures
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment and instruments
  • General understanding of chemical systems or related science concepts
  • Academic background in Chemistry (preferred), or another physical science with a lab component (such as Physics, Biology, Environmental Science) or Chemical Engineering
