Description

Every position contributes to the spiritual and social mission of The Salvation Army. The Kitchen/Foodbank Helper assists the cook in preparing meals and assists in the operations of collecting and processing donations to the Williams Lake Salvation Army, practicing good stewardship of resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation
  • Assists in preparing meals, including dietary meals as directed by the kitchen supervisor.
  • Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food
  • Follows policy on the use of donated
  • May place order for food supplies, in coordination with the kitchen supervisor.
  • Organizes the work of food services in the absence of the kitchen supervisor.
  • Cleans the kitchen and kitchen equipment as
  • Keeps simple records and completes incident reports as necessary.
  • Through exercising empathetic and professional care, assists individuals and families to obtain a food hamper working through the intake process and delivering the services required.
  • Works with volunteers in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Processes donated items: unloading, sorting, spacing, and loading items.
  • Creates and maintain donor/donation records and reports statistics.
  • Replenishes inventory levels based on supervisor\'s directions.
  • Operates commercial scale.
  • May collect and process goods for emergency and disaster services as assigned (i.e. supply clothing, household goods (may include food) to families as a result of a disaster - flood/fire)
  • Works with team members in building safety: including light cleaning and reporting needed maintenance to supervisor; assists in general cleanup, snow removal, garbage, and compost removal.
  • Will be responsible for receiving phone calls, receiving donations, handling public inquiries within Williams Lake Salvation Army\'s policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
HOURS:
  • Temporary Full Time
  • 30 hrs - Monday - Friday 8:30-3 with \xc2\xbd hr unpaid lunch.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Safe 1 basic
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an
Experience:
  • Preference given to those who have prior kitchen/restaurant helper
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Excellent customer/donor service ethics including the ability to deal with the public in a friendly, non-judgmental manner.
  • A proven ability to work in a team setting as well as a willingness to take personal initiatives.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to adapt to change and interruptions to a normal work routine, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability to change and frequent
  • Ability to lift more than 30 pounds
  • Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
  • Background check
  • A clear vulnerable sector
  • A clean drivers
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety
  • Completion of Fit4Mission training.
