Job Description


Are you passionate about providing delicious, nutritious meals to seniors in a warm and welcoming environment? We\'re seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team at Mosquito Creek Foundation. As a key member reporting to the Food Services Manager, you\'ll play a crucial role in meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean and sanitized food services area. Positional Accountability Areas: Meal Preparation:

  • Follow approved menus and registered dietitian guidelines for meal preparation.
  • Adhere to standardized recipes and ensure Safe Food Handling practices.
  • Maintain compliance with Food Safe Regulations and regulated temperature guidelines.
  • Prioritize resident preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Communicate supply needs to the Food Services Manager.
  • Uphold security precautions.
Meal Service:
  • Ensure timely delivery of meals as per schedule.
  • Serve meals in accordance with residents\' dietary guidelines.
  • Report any changes in residents\' dietary habits to the Food Services Manager.
  • Organize meals for Meals on Wheels Program and off-site transportation.
  • Ensure a respectful and professional interaction with residents.
Cleanliness of Food Services Area:
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work environment to prevent cross-contamination and ensure infection control.
  • Adhere to sanitation program and record-keeping requirements.
  • Keep kitchen work areas and equipment clean and organized throughout shifts.
  • Monitor dishwasher temperatures and chemical usage.
  • Complete sanitation tasks as per shift requirements and safe work procedures.
Safety & Security:
  • Familiarize yourself with the Lodge Emergency Plan and Safety Procedures.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, personnel, and visitors during cooking duties.
  • Report any work-related injuries promptly and follow proper procedures.
Core Competencies:
  • Show compassion, respect, empathy, and kindness to both the elderly and fellow staff members.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Exhibit a flexible, positive, and willing attitude.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards.
  • Possess an understanding of the Canada Food Guide and willingness to learn and follow Food Regulations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to undergo additional training if required.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Food Safe Handling Certificate.
  • First Aid certification.
  • WHMIS certification.
