Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities



Ability to work effectively and safely in a kitchen environment which may include compact spaces, high temperatures, etc. Plans and develops menus and recipes including special diets such as diabetic, lactose intolerant, low fat and vegetarian. Prepares and serves meals in accordance with established menus by performing duties such as planning food preparation and cooking schedules, cooking, roasting, grilling, baking, carving and testing for palatability. Modifies and adjusts established menu on a daily basis as required. Performs administrative duties such as estimating food and supply requirements based on menu planning and inventory levels, placing purchase orders with external suppliers, receiving, labelling and storing supplies and checking invoices against orders and goods received. Shops for food items (electronically or in person) and monitors all kitchen expenditures. Completes cleaning checklist by performing duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks and counters, cleaning kitchen and storage areas such as walls, ovens and freezers and removing garbage. Ensures ongoing compliance with Food Safe and Fraser Health Guidelines and reports all concerns regarding food safety or equipment to the Manager of Day Program. Washes, scrubs and rinses pots, pans, dishes and utensils by hand or using dishwasher. Completes and maintains records and documentation such as recipes and records of individual dietary needs. Performs other related duties as required by the Manager of Day Program.

Education



Valid Food Safe certificate. A certificate, diploma or degree in culinary arts is preferred.

Experience



At least two years of recent, related experience. Experience working with older adults (special diets) is preferred.

Other Requirements



Physically fit to perform the above duties which may include standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 10lbs. Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers' License and possess a vehicle insured for work purposes. Effective written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $26.59 per hour
