Position summary This position reports to the Assistant Dean, First Nation, Metis, and Inuit students and works closely with First Peoples\' House staff, including the Elders. The primary focus is the mental health and well-being of First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) learners at the University of Alberta. The kise y\xc3\xb4tin role will work closely with the other aunties and will guide them in assisting students in accessing on and off campus resources related to their mental health and well-being. The Auntie will also work with the other aunties to facilitate wellness activities and provide appropriate holistic guidance to First Nation, Metis, and Inuit students. The kise y\xc3\xb4tin will also provide a multi-pronged approach in providing resources and guidance related to the prevention and treatment of substance use. The kise y\xc3\xb4tin will manage crisis response and students of concern by providing students with emotional support and connecting them to the appropriate and suitable resources on or off campus. An important component of this position is to engage and empower students in the decision-making process related to their trauma management, mental health and well-being. These fully competent Consultants apply discipline-specific knowledge, prior experience, as well as a full range of principles, methods and techniques associated with the discipline, to work assignments, projects and programs. Work is performed in accordance with professional and/or discipline specific standards or defined principles, which allows incumbents to work independently under broad and general instruction or objectives. Is a strategic leader who is able to translate the First Peoples\xe2\x80\x99 House (FPH) vision into a culturally relevant and community focused direction for Auntie program overall including the staff, programs, partnerships and holistic activities as it pertains to managing trauma, intergenerational trauma and mental health/addictions.
Is a responsible leader and administrator of all aspects of the Auntie program, including coordination with Elders, First Nation, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit organizations and agencies on and off campus.
Provides clear and uncomplicated advice and recommendations based on experience and knowledge to support informed decision making by leaders as it pertains to Students of Concern.

Considers concerns of FNMI students from all perspectives inclusive of traditional practices and western ideologies; defines and confirms the true nature or causality of the problem before proceeding; Seeks out a wide range of sources of information; expands on the thinking of others.

Maintains meaningful relationships and creates authentic and positive engagement with Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers (TKK), and respect of FNMI students within all levels of their journey at the UofA.
Is consistent with students and is a reliable source of information and more importantly provides holistic support for FNMI students.
Communicator
Excellent and flexible in their approach and traditional knowledge when delivering to varied audiences such as with students, Elders, staff and FNMI community members.
Relatable and mindful to the FNMI students, families and community members as it pertains to living within a First Nation community, a M\xc3\xa9tis Settlement or a Inuit community (fly in communities, rural and urban experiences, 60s scoop, IRS survivor or first generation survivors).
Ensures communication with the assistant dean First Nation, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit students, on\xc3\xaek\xc3\xa2n\xc3\xaew FPH and other community stakeholders are informed in a timely, consistent and accurate manner.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree
Demonstrated ability to adapt and pivot to rapidly changing demands

Excellent tact and professionalism to facilitate negotiation, conflict resolution, and handle highly confidential matters.

Has a thorough understanding of, and act in accordance with, the Helping Individuals At Risk Policy and Procedures, the Protocol for Urgent Cases of Disruptive, Threatening or Violent Conduct disciplinary policies at the University of Alberta (e.g. those outlined in the Student Conduct Policy, Student Misconduct Complaint Procedure, the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy, the Discrimination, Harassment and Duty to Accommodate Policy), and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) Act.

Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in their tribal language (Stoney, Dogrib, Cree, Chipewyan, Dene, Inuit, Blackfoot, Ojibwe, Mechif) is an asset.
Holds traditional knowledge and Elder teachings with a strong commitment to on-going ceremony and teachings.
Holds on-going meaningful connections to community, Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers.
Demonstrated experience with developing and delivering culturally appropriate guidance sessions and materials in the scope of mental health, intergenerational trauma, well-being and addictions.
