Job Summary
Reporting to the Division Manager, Rehabilitation Day Services, the Kinesiologist/Certified Exercise Physiologist will be primarily responsible for implementing aerobic exercise training for patients with subacute stroke under the direction of the Recovery and Performance Lab, located on the 4th floor of the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre. The successful incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the health and research teams to perform exercise testing and prescription / monitoring of individualized exercise programs to maximize recovery. The incumbent will utilize modified and specialized exercise equipment such as body-weight supported treadmills and gait assist devices, recumbent step and cycle and/or bicycle ergometers to implement exercise training in patients with functional impairment due to stroke. Additional exercise based interventions in other patient populations such as spinal cord injury, orthopaedic conditions, amputations and osteoarthritis may also be required as part of this position.

Job Demands

Occasionally lifts or moves objects between 10 - 25 lbs.
Regularly requires a variety of body movement including bending, kneeling, and stretching and pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force.
Regularly requires fine finger/precision work and sitting at a computer.
Auditory concentration is required to listen attentively to clients and team members to obtain and interpret information correctly. Higher than normal levels of attentiveness is required when facilitating discussions and committee meetings.
Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
Various shifts including days with possible/occasional evening and/or weekends.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics from an approved/recognized program is required. Course work in Exercise Physiology is essential.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Kinesiology Association is required.
Eligible for and willing to do a certification as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology.
Experience working with patients and families who have experienced stroke is preferred.
Experience in prescribing and implementing exercise programs for individuals with chronic conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury and osteoarthritis is preferred.
Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated ability to implement programs, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
