Kids In Motion Coordinator (Contract)
Saddletowne YMCA, Community Locations in North East and Central Calgary
Start Date: May 1, 2023
End Date: August 31, 2023
Salary: $16.40/hr - $19.09/hr

What qualifications are we looking for?
We strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Interest in working with children;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • Ability to swim is required;
  • Previous Day Camp experience preferred;
  • Availability to work from May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023;
  • Reliable transportation as travel is required;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Kids in Motion programs run out of different neighborhoods throughout the city of Calgary. Program sites are hosted by communities with low socio-economic status and high barriers to accessibility. As a Leader, you will plan and implement intentional and meaningful programming as well as philanthropic opportunities for the participants based on a curriculum focusing on philanthropy, volunteerism, leadership, community engagement, and health and wellness. Through recreation, intentional programming, and fun and engaging experiences, children and youth age 9-12 will learn valuable skills in this structured summer camp program.

Kids in Motion Coordinator will:
  • Hire, train and provide coaching and performance management for Kids in Motion Counsellors;
  • Collaborate with partners in the community and establish host sites for Kids in Motion programs;
  • Network with schools and youth organizations in the community to recruit participants for Kids in Motion;
  • Support the registration for Kids in Motion by collecting registration forms, connecting with parents & guardians and inputting data into the system;
  • Ensure that YMCA Camp Counsellors are providing safe and engaging programs while following YMCA policies and procedures including health & safety & child protection;
  • Demonstrate role model behavior when dealing with staff, participants, and community representatives;
  • Use excellent communication skills when interacting with parents & guardians, children, counsellors, and other YMCA staff;
  • Complete all required administrative tasks including organizing rosters and medical forms;
  • Plan and implement weekly staff meetings with Kids in Motion Counsellors;
  • Follow-up on health & safety incidences and codes related to Kids in Motion in a timely manner;
  • Provide weekly updates and complete an annual Kids in Motion report at the end of the season.
