Job Overview:
Bark Brigade is seeking a dedicated Kennel Tech / Trainer's Assistant to join our team. This position involves a variety of tasks, including cleaning, tending to dogs, assisting in training sessions, and supporting trainers as needed. This role is designed to lead into a dog training position, with the potential for rapid advancement based on the candidate's ability to learn and apply new skills. We are looking for someone who aspires to be a dog trainer and is committed to climbing the ladder from Kennel Tech to Trainer. Bark Brigade is a rapidly growing training organization looking for individuals who are eager to develop from the ground up and embrace our training philosophy.
Responsibilities:
Sanitize and clean crate rooms, kennels, and training areas
Feed and provide water to dogs in their kennels
Take dogs out for potty breaks
Assist with drop-offs and ensure dogs are placed in their kennels
Support training sessions (tasks will depend on experience and ability)
Assist in filming social media content
Maintain and clean outdoor yard areas
Accompany trainers on field trips with the dogs
Commit to 12-20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including morning and evening shifts
Qualifications:
Confident handling and working around dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments, including small to extra-large dogs
VERY comfortable handling dogs with severe behavioral issues
Comfortable learning and assisting in behavioral modification cases with dogs
Open-minded and willing to learn different training methods
Okay with using training tools
Self-motivated and capable of working independently
Able to work both morning and evening shifts to start
Very dependable with strong communication skills
No prior training experience required
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in a kennel environment
Career Progression Timeline:
By 3 months:
You will have fully trained your own dog using our training guidelines. This includes behavior modification, on-leash obedience, and advanced off-leash obedience. Pay increase available, access to additional resources, and start shadowing board-and-train cases.
By 6 months:
You will have shown the ability to train and will be ready to start your first board-and-train case (non-behavioral) with support from the head trainer. Pay increase and opportunity for more hours (potential for full-time).
By 1 year:
You will be handling multiple board-and-train cases, including select behavioral modification cases. Pay increase and full-time employment guarantee.
