'Na?mg?is First Nation is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Payroll Clerk to support bi-weekly payroll and benefits administration across Na?mg?is First Nation and affiliated companies. Working closely with the Senior Payroll Clerk and reporting to the Comptroller, this role also maintains WorksafeBC (WCB) injury reporting and remittances, serves as petty cash custodian, completes periodic government reporting (DFO, ISC, OSFI), and provides backup support for Accounts Payable and counter deposits, including the administration of Nimpkish Fisheries flow-through funds.
Key Responsibilities
------------------------
Process bi-weekly payroll.
Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting and payments (income taxes, EI, CPP, WorksafeBC, ISC, etc.).
Prepare Records of Employment as required.
Reconcile payroll-related general ledger account codes monthly.
Orient new hires to benefits; ensure all required forms are completed and submitted.
Inform staff of benefit updates/changes.
Maintain records and reporting for staff pension and extended benefit plans.
Handle workplace injury reports; complete and remit all WorksafeBC requirements.
Disburse eligible payments in line with Na?mg?is policies as petty cash custodian.
Prepare and submit monthly Village of Alert Bay claims for the Sewage Treatment Plant.
Prepare and submit monthly tax returns for exempt sales of tobacco/fuel to the Province.
Manage submission of the annual pension return.
Provide backup Accounts Payable processing (honoraria, travel, contracts, staff claims, petty cash & others) as needed to meet operational requirements.
Provide backup for counter deposit, deposit/receipt, and administration of Nimpkish Fisheries flow-through funds.
Qualifications
------------------
Minimum Grade 12 completion.
A certificate or diploma in accounting, payroll, or bookkeeping is an asset.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and operate autonomously.
Strong attention to detail; trustworthy with solid work ethic.
Quick learner with proactive problem-solving.
Compensation
----------------
Hourly:
$28.07-$32.78, commensurate with experience.
