Job Description

Wood is looking for entry level Junior Mechanical/Piping Design Drafters we can develop at our Process & Energy office in Grande Prairie, Alberta. This thriving northern community is the hub for northern Alberta and British Columbia, stretching all the way into the Northwest Territories. With Forestry, Oil & Gas and Agriculture, the 'Peace' region also provides diverse challenges across a variety of industries and projects.

The Wood Process & Energy business performs consulting and EPCM services for Canada's Power Generation, Pulp & Paper and Municipal projects. After more than 80 years, our offices continue to provide professional engineering and construction services to the Pulp & Paper industry across Canada, the USA and Internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating drawings and diagrams under the direct supervision of an Engineer or Designer such as: General arrangements, sections, elevations, bills of materials, cable, duct, and bolt schedules and equipment layout drawings
  • Retrieving, entering, and updating design data within drawings
  • Complying to design documentation including e-mails, letters, memos, forms, schedules, work plans, and technical requirements
  • Checking drawings for conflicts and conformance with project design and/or CAD Engineering standards
  • Developing oneself into the role of designer
Skills / Qualifications
  • Diploma in Computer Aided Design technology from an accredited University/College or equivalent - Pipe Design/Drafting program an asset, but not required
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office 365
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Open minded and fast learner
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and functions
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The successful candidate shall have experience and posses the physical ability to work out of the office on heavy industrial sites independently and safely
