We are seeking a skilled
Junior
Mechanical Designer
to support the design and development of custom conveyor and material handling systems for industrial applications. Working under the guidance of senior designers, the Junior Mechanical Designer assists in preparing 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings, and project documentation to ensure designs are accurate, efficient, and manufacturable.
About the Role:
The
Junior Mechanical Designer
role requires strong proficiency in CAD software, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet functional, safety, and cost requirements.
This is a 6-month contract position with the potential to turn into a full-time role.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
:
Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings for conveyors, material handling components, supports, and related equipment.
Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure accuracy and consistency across all project documentation.
Work with standard design components such as bearings, drives, belts, motors, frames, and guarding.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and project management teams to ensure designs meet customer specifications, safety standards, and manufacturing requirements.
Assist with design changes, drawing revisions, and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior designers and shop staff.
Support the fabrication and installation teams by answering design-related questions and providing updated drawings as needed.
Maintain organized design files in accordance with company standards and revision control practices.
Ensure all work complies with company safety policies and applicable standards.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attitude
:
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial equipment or safety guarding.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
Understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes, including welding, machining, and sheet metal design.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and fabrication drawings.
Basic understanding of material handling systems, and general industrial equipment.
Familiarity with mechanical design standards.
Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings and documentation.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Eagerness to learn and grow within a collaborative design team environment.
Knowledge, application and adherence to technical and safety standards, industry best practices and regulations in George A. Wright's field of business.
Adhere to company and customer site safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively participate in safety training and hazard prevention practices. Ensure that Good Manufacturing Practices are adhered to at all times.
Must be able to work overtime when required.
Working Environment
Office-based with occasional visits to manufacturing or client sites.
Collaborative, fast-paced design team environment.
