This is a part-time role with hours varying from 20-40 hours a week. Engineering and Civil Technology diploma co-op students looking for field experience are encouraged to apply. The role may transition into a full time materials technician or Geotechnical E.I.T. role based on qualifications and performance.

Job Requirements:



6 months to 1 year of experience in materials and lab testing, with proficiency in a range of lab and field tests, including but not limited to:

Lab Tests: Proctors, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, hydrometers, resistivities, sulphates, concrete curing, and strength testing.*

Field Tests: Compaction testing, proof rolls, bearing inspections, concrete testing.*
CCIL certification for concrete; aggregate certification is also considered an asset. Possession of CSTS 2020 and WHMIS 2015 certifications. Up to 1 year of construction experience is preferred. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong communication skills. High attention to detail. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

The Materials Technician Role Includes:



Conducting quality inspections on construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. Ensuring laboratory compliance with regulatory standards. Monitoring the proper placement of construction materials and assessing workmanship quality. Reporting any non-conformance issues to the management team. Preparing and collecting samples for laboratory testing. Performing field or laboratory tests on construction materials to assess quality. Ensuring proper maintenance and care of materials testing equipment and vehicles. Building and maintaining positive client relationships through effective communication and collaboration. Actively participating in and supporting Helix's Quality Management System.
