We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Lawyer to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will assist in various legal matters, providing support in research, drafting documents, and negotiating agreements. This role is an excellent opportunity for recent law graduates or those with limited experience looking to develop their legal skills in a dynamic environment while gaining experience and mentorship. The candidate must be admitted to the bar with a good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as Lexis-Nexis to support case preparation and strategy.
Draft, review, and revise legal documents, including contracts, forms, agreements, and pleadings.
Assist senior lawyers in negotiations and client meetings, providing insights and recommendations based on research findings.
Maintain organized case files and documentation to ensure compliance with legal standards.
Collaborate with team members on various projects, contributing to the overall success of the firm.
Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations that may impact client cases or the firm's practice areas.
Assist in the preparation of cases including research, drafting forms, filing documentation with the court, email correspondence, ability to attend court, fully aware of the practice direction of different courts, ready to travel to courts in the GTA.
Attend court proceedings and mediations.
Conduct meetings with clients.
Meet case deadlines.
Requirements
A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
Familiarity with legal drafting and negotiation processes is preferred.
Strong research skills with proficiency in using Lexis-Nexis or similar legal research tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective client interaction and document preparation.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated to manage individual tasks efficiently.
Excellent computer skills.
Strong work ethic.
Attention to detail.
Fluency in English (Speaking one or more is an asset but not necessary: Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi).
In-person, 5 days a week.
Working hours are 9 AM - 5 PM (hours may vary due to the nature of the job).
Salary will start at $55,000 - $70,000 based on experience. The firm supports professional development and there is the opportunity to grow within the firm and earn more overtime.
