POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Junior IT Desktop Support Technician
provides front-line technical support to clinic staff and physicians in a fast-paced medical environment. This role ensures the reliability and functionality of computers, printers, phones, and related systems essential to patient care and administrative operations. Working under the direction of the Health Information Services Supervisor, the successful candidate will maintain and support day-to-day technology operations, contributing to efficient and uninterrupted clinic workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma in Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of Fedora (or other Linux distributions) and Windows environments.
Experience with VoIP phone systems.
Basic understanding of network fundamentals (IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, VPN)
Familiarity of Avaya telephone systems administration and troubleshooting is an asset.
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing computer hardware issues.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support non-technical users effectively.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, multi-user environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Desktop & Hardware Support
Install, configure and maintain Fedora (Linux) and Windows desktop computers and peripherals (printers, scanners, fax systems, label printers etc.)
Perform hardware replacements, upgrades, and general troubleshooting for both Fedora and Windows workstations.
Maintain consistent software environments, including imaging, patching, and version control.
Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of email systems and internet access.
Support user setups, permissions, device provisioning, and other EMR-related duties as assigned.
Network & Systems Support
Serve as first-line support for connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, hospital access, local networks, shared drives, etc.) before escalation.
Liaise with external IT service providers for complex network or server issues.
Monitor system health dashboards and alerts, including security camera systems.
Assist in setting up and troubleshooting user accounts for Immigration, eChart, PMH EPR, SWIM and LibreMD.
Telephone & Communications
Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot the Clinic's Avaya telephone system, including hardware, software, and voicemail services.
Coordinate with the phone vendor for escalated issues
Office Equipment & Facilities Integration
Support faxing and scanning workflows, ensuring proper device functionality and EMR integration.
Assist with parking system monitoring (gate access, fob/card management, troubleshooting payment terminals, and weekly cash removal).
User Support & Training
Respond promptly to IT support requests from staff and physicians, both in person and over the phone.
Provide courteous, effective, and solution-oriented assistance to minimize downtime.
Document issues, resolutions, and solutions for future reference and knowledge sharing.
Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance clinic operations.
Provide additional technical support to the Administration team as required.
