We are currently seeking a
Junior Financial Controller
to join our growing team.
Position Summary
The Junior Controller plays a key role in supporting the organization by overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, supervising the Bookkeeper, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information. This role is responsible for general ledger integrity, monthly reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting year-end and tax requirements. The Junior Controller will act as a critical reviewer and gatekeeper of financial data while contributing to process improvements and overall financial stewardship of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Oversight
Provide daily oversight and guidance to the Bookkeeper, ensuring timely and accurate completion of payables, receivables, and payroll.
Review the Bookkeeper's work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies.
Support training and development of the Bookkeeper to strengthen accounting knowledge and efficiency.
Accounting & Reporting
Perform regular reviews of the general ledger (GL) to ensure accurate coding, posting, and reconciliation of transactions.
Prepare and review monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
Manage and deliver monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financial reporting packages for management review.
Support preparation of variance analyses and commentary to accompany monthly reports.
Year-End & Audit
Act as the primary liaison with external accountants and auditors during year-end.
Prepare and provide required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations.
Process & Internal Controls
Contribute to improving accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Assist in documenting workflows and recommending efficiencies.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation in progress an asset).
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a supervisory or senior accounting role.
Experience with monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting required.
Prior exposure to working with external auditors or accountants preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in
Sage
(or similar ERP/accounting system).
Advanced
Microsoft Excel
skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data analysis).
Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards.
Familiarity with payroll and benefits administration is an asset.

Working Conditions

Occasional overtime may be required during month-end and year-end close.

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
