Job Summary

The Junior Engineer - Continuous Improvement supports operational excellence and process optimization in a chemical manufacturing environment. You will work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, and EHS teams to identify and implement sustainable improvements. This role also includes responsibility for managing small-scale capital (CAPEX) projects--from concept through execution--aligned with site goals for safety, productivity, and cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Identify inefficiencies, waste, and variability across production and support areas Gather and analyze process data (e.g., downtime, yield, throughput, scrap rates) to support CI initiatives Lead Lean and Six Sigma projects using tools such as 5S, Kaizen, standard work, root cause analysis (RCA), and DMAIC Achieve yearly CI savings targets by executing multiple CI projects. Assist with the creation and maintenance of SOPs, work instructions, and operator training materials Track and communicate CI project progress, KPIs, and outcomes to plant leadership Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., WHMIS, ISO, PSM) Plan and execute small capital projects, including process upgrades, equipment installations, and facility modifications Assist with equipment FAT, commissioning and support new product trial runs Collaborate with maintenance and operations to implement and sustain improvements Spend significant time on the production floor analyzing operations and driving improvement activities

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field. 1-2 years of experience in a chemical or process manufacturing environment (including co-op/internship experience) Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma; certification is an asset Demonstrated interest or basic experience in project management and capital project execution Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); knowledge of Minitab is a plus Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment Willingness to spend extensive time on the production floor working with operators and supervisors

Preferred Attributes

Knowledge of chemical manufacturing regulations and standards (e.g., WHMIS, PSM, ISO 9001) Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities Strong written and verbal communication skills Positive attitude and a continuous learning mindset Basic knowledge of process control systems and mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, and VFDs
