The Junior Draftsman / Designer will be responsible for the development and preparation of designs and drawings (to be reviewed by an engineer) using SolidWorks, ensuring that drawings conform to specifications and design data.

This position is in a smaller manufacturing facility in Lakefield - close to Peterborough Ontario.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Development of engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and manuals for; production items, structural steel layouts for buildings and docks & decks, jigs and fixtures for use in the manufacturing processes.
2. Prepare "Solidworks" models, and detail drawings, bills of materials, parts lists etcetera from concept models and quote sketches
3. Prepare assembly instructions complete with exploded view drawings, step by step diagram drawings, and text instructions for shop fabrication and customer DIY products
4. Manage and improve drawing e-filing & reference/numbering system & drawing maintenance.
5. Assist fabricators with understanding drawings and determining appropriate fabrication techniques if required.
6. Learn plasma cutter operation and become technical support and emergency backup for plasma cutter operator - includes conversion of drawings to .dxf files and getting them downloaded to plasma cutter.
7. Develop operation and maintenance manuals for R&J products.
8. Develop/design/draw workshop solutions for process improvement.
9. Be prepared to visit field installations to assist crews with understanding of assembly/install and/or fabrication techniques.
10. There will also be the requirement for some light manufacturing duties and assembly of specialty products and prototypes.
11. Help develop simple portable graphic/drawing solution for sales quotations - eliminate time lost for manual sketches of standard sections
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
College diploma or University degree in engineering design and drafting technology, mechanical engineering or a related field.
Ability to develop accurate manufacturing specs in a timely manner.
Must have the ability to partner with internal customers in order to develop manufacturing specs effectively.
Ability to create freehand sketches / perspectives essential.
Effective verbal and written communication skills
in English

Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks software package.
