JUNIOR CONSERVATION OFFICER

The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for a Junior Conservation Officer for an indeterminate position. The position is classified as an R\xc3\x89-03 ($50,375 to $63,754 per annum).

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to a Senior Conservation Officer, the Junior Conservation Officer is responsible for patrolling the National Capital Commission (NCC) lands daily to ensure all regulations are respected, including the NCC\xe2\x80\x99s Traffic and Property Regulations as well as the Animal Regulations. The individual completes occurrence reports to document observations, infractions and complaints, issues infractions and assists in the coordination of parking and traffic management during events on NCC property. The Junior Conservation Officer uses the NCC issued patrol vehicles as well as other equipment necessary to undertake the functions of the position. This position may require walking long distances in a natural environment, sometimes in rugged terrain and in difficult weather conditions. The individual also participates in provincial court by testifying and presenting evidences as required. The Junior Conservation Officer provides information to the public regarding regulations and supports the Conservation team in responding to emergency calls.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: A College diploma (minimum two (2) years) in Conservation, in Law Enforcement, in Environment and Natural Resource, or in a related field.
CERTIFICATES / LICENCES:
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and a good driving record.
EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience in Conservation, in Law Enforcement, in Environment and Natural Resource, or in a related field.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Of the court proceeding related to infractions;
  • Of the diverse techniques used in natural resource management for the collection of data, inventorying and other land study;
  • Of the appropriate federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations governing the protection of assets and natural resources on lands of the NCC.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
  • Linguistic profile: Bilingual CBC;
  • Meet RCMP criteria to obtain Peace Officer Status;
  • Complete a psychological assessment;
  • Wear a uniform, including protective equipment and other operational tools if necessary;
  • Requires working shifts, evenings, weekends, outside of regular working hours, and occasionally during statutory holidays;
  • Work in climatic conditions that at times can be difficult;
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The candidate must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace (80 Bayview Station Road, Ottawa, Ontario).

ASSETS
  • Possess a valid certificate for First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation;
  • Possess a pleasure craft operator card;
  • Certificate or training for use of ATV and snowmobile;
  • Certificate or training for a law enforcement oriented bicycle course;
  • A provincial trapping license either from Qu\xc3\xa9bec or Ontario;
  • Successfully complete a Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE);
  • Experience enforcing regulations;
  • Experience monitoring lands;
  • Experience preparing occurrence reports.
