Aplin has partnered with our client to seek a Junior BI Developer who will be responsible for supporting Power BI reports deployment to cloud and on-premise, supporting Power BI as a platform, and enhancing existing Power BI reports. This position will occasionally be called on to advise and support database applications such as system-to-system integrations or as an advisor to data migration/data cleansing efforts unrelated to BI or data management.

This is a 12-month contract available to candidates in Calgary or Vancouver.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support to citizen developers building reports on standardized and non-standardized data sources to align with best practices and standards of the operating framework and execute procedures to deploy reports through a lifecycle and support production systems and reports
• Have an eye for design and be able to produce beautifully designed reports attending to small design details (e.g., alignment, font selection, color selection, readability, data design principles)
• Responsible for the continuous up-keep of Technical Solution Documents
• Provide end-user support
• Continuously improves and enforces Data Governance, Tools, and Standards for use throughout the enterprise, while seeking alignment of BI & Analytics Enterprise
• Works collaboratively with various digital systems' teams to deliver a stable and highly available analytics' reporting platform
• Responsible for providing insight and guidance on data security and privacy issues

Qualifications:

• Computer Science or related degree
• Minimum 6 months of experience in building various BI solutions with a focus on Power BI reporting
• Perform data validation to ensure data correctness
• Design and development using best practices for data management and visualization
• Use source control (GitHub) for version control
• Experience with deploying Power BI Reports to either on-premise and/or cloud implementations of Power BI
• Knowledge of workspaces and Power BI Report Deployment and management
• Advanced SQL skills (Ability to construct complex SQL queries to collect and shape data from relational databases, including performance troubleshooting)
• Able to use DAX to construct calculations in Power BI including knowledge of DAX functions for creating measures, calculated columns, and tables and understanding of what kinds of problems are appropriate to each of these
• Knowledge of Power BI ecosystem including reporting constraints with Power BI service, Licensing options, Data Gateways, Workspaces, Apps, Dataflows
• Familiarity with Star Schema data models
• Knowledge of and experience working in Azure/Office 365 environments
• Mining Industry experience is an asset
