The Role
We are seeking a
Junior Automation and Controls Designer
to join our Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (El&C) team. This is an exciting opportunity to build your career in industrial automation within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. You'll support the development, integration, and deployment of automation solutions across a range of industrial and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
Assist with programming and configuration of PLC systems for automation applications
Help design and modify HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens for operator interface and control
Support setup and testing of SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control
Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot hardware and software issues
Support system integration tasks involving industrial sensors, actuators, and control equipment
Assist with control panel design and produce associated drawings (panel fabrication, wiring, schematics)
Learn to interpret electrical schematics and process flow diagrams
Participate in commissioning and debugging activities in both lab and field environments
Stay engaged in ongoing learning and development to build technical skills in automation
What You Bring
Education & Certification:
Diploma in Electrical System Design or related field (e.g., NBCC); Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering also accepted
Experience & Skills:
Familiarity with PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, FBD) or strong interest in learning
Basic understanding of automation systems such as PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA
Interest in industrial automation and a proactive approach to learning new technologies
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently when needed
Experience with AutoCAD or technical drawing (asset)
Software development experience (asset)
Exposure to industrial sectors such as Food & Beverage, Pulp & Paper, or Power Generation (asset)
Valid driver's license for travel to client sites
