The Junior Accountant (AP) is directly responsible for performing data entry and related duties for accounts payable to suppliers, corporations, and other entities. This includes maintaining invoices from vendors, managing credit balances, and resolving account irregularities. The Junior Accountant (AP) will also ensure the timely and accurate processing of payment documents such as purchase orders, purchase invoices, travel reimbursements, and other transactions related to A/P management.
In addition, this role will assist with the automation of Accounts Payable processes, helping to identify, test, and implement system improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in payment workflows.

Primary Duties:
Prepare journal entries (inventory adjustments, warranty/goodwill expenses).
Receive, process, verify, and reconcile purchase orders (purchase receipts).
Record and post accounts payable transactions and purchase credit memos (including but not limited to operating expenses, fixed assets, and employee expenses).
Distribute purchase invoices for approval to the appropriate department manager.
Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
Investigate and resolve issues related to inventory discrepancies.
Review and post RGAs and related stock adjustments.
Prepare expense statements for the President and other managers as required.
Prepare cheque runs (including wire payments) and process invoices to be paid to vendors.
Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies or misapplied cash transactions.
Collaborate with the Controller or Senior Accountant to maintain collection goals and overall A/P performance levels.
Update and set up customer cards in Business Central.
Assist with the automation and optimization of AP workflows, including invoice capture, approval routing, and payment processing.
Perform related clerical duties such as word processing, sorting and distributing mail, maintaining filing and record systems, and photocopying.
Assist with the annual fixed asset physical count.
Handle taxable benefits - auto and non-auto.
Retrieve documents as required by auditors.
Provide vacation coverage for other accounting duties as required.
Perform other duties or ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, post, correct, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
Strong knowledge of payment regulations and fair credit practices.
Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Working Conditions:
Work done indoors, mainly in front of a computer and on the phone.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.
