ABOUT THE ROLE



This is a Junior Accountant role reporting to the Accounting Manager, Residential Rental. The Junior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of residential assets. The role requires a dynamic individual who is adaptable and thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing residential accounting tasks efficiently.

Primary Job Responsibilities



Tenant Setup and Lease Administration

Set up, review, and activate tenant leases in the accounting system Update ancillary charges and ensure they are correctly applied to tenant accounts Maintain accurate rent rolls for units, parking, storage, etc. Ensure rent increases are captured monthly and updated in the system in compliance with lease terms and legal requirements Liaise with leasing team, property manager and onsite team to assist with property related financial matters and ensure smooth coordination
Accounts Receivable Management

Monitor and review monthly receivables for accuracy, adjustments, or corrections Enter and apply tenant payments to outstanding accounts
Tenant Charges and Cancellations

Process tenant charges and cancellations, ensuring all adjustments are reflected in tenant accounts Administer NSF fees, fines, late fees, and other tenant-related charges
Security Deposits Management

Process the release of security deposits at the end of the tenancy, including any required deductions
Accounts Payable

Review and enter accounts payable invoices for coding accuracy, ensuring they align with the budget, operating agreements, and any applicable easements
Bank and Credit Card Reconciliation

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for residential properties Reconcile credit card statements for residential properties, ensuring accuracy of charges Reconcile receipts for bookable amenities to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping
Month-End and Quarterly Close Processes

Assist in completing month-end close processes for designated residential properties Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts to produce accurate monthly financial statements Assist with quarterly reporting and provide financial data to the team
Tenant Inquiries and Coordination

Handle tenant inquiries and respond to questions regarding tenant statements, contracts, etc. Research and resolve issues raised by resident managers regarding tenant accounts Provide coordination and support to both the head office and onsite residential teams
Administrative Support and Reporting

Assist with reporting and any other administrative support for the accounting team
Other Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager

Qualifications



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess strong organizational skills and high attention to detail Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders Positive, collaborative and team oriented with excellent relationship building skills Motivated and ability to learn quickly. Proactive, dependable and solutions oriented Works with a sense of urgency and curiosity

Required Training and Experience

Preferably working toward a CPA designation Experience with property accounting, property management or real estate is an asset Experience with Yardi Voyageur is an asset Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
