AECOM Cultural Resources Team is currently seeking a Jr Project Archaeologist to work out of any one of our Ontario AECOM Offices to contribute to the growth and diversification of our archaeology team. The successful candidate will assist in managing, coordinating, and completing various archaeological assessments and associated reporting in accordance with provincial standards while meeting the needs of our diverse range of clientele.

:

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.
Types of Lab Work in CRM Archaeology

PROCESSING
  • Washing material properly (following different techniques based on material type)
  • Performing a quality check on field collection and removing non-cultural material
  • Laying out material with identifying tags
  • Handling and laying out material in a way that there is no possibility material from different contexts mix and identifying tags always stay with the proper material
  • Ensuring quality control, and organization of entire site collection
ANALYSIS
  • Analyze material according to type, form, function, date, of piece.
  • For Lithics must identify: material type, tool type, morphology, stage of reduction
  • For Pottery must identify: construction method, grit temper type, morphology, area of vessel, and accurately describe decorative style and technique
  • For 19th century ceramic: body density type, decorative type, date of manufacture, location of manufacture
  • For 19th century metal: date of manufacture, construction method, function, material type
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in archaeology, anthropology (or in progress), or a related field. Cover letters must demonstrate how education in a related field is an acceptable equivalent.
  • Must support the management of projects from the proposal phase to report completion, including coordination of multidisciplinary teams to successfully execute project deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Pre-contact and historic artifact cataloguing experience.
  • Experience with field effort tracking- i.e. collection and management of all field data
  • Experience completing archaeological reports in compliance with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries\' (MHSTCI) standards.
  • Familiarity with the MHSTCI\'s archaeology and heritage online portal (Past Portal).
  • Firm understanding of the MHSTCI\'s Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
  • Experience preparing and implementing field health and safety materials.
  • Valid Research or Professional class license issued by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate logistics for multiple field teams
  • Complete projects within client\'s scope/budget/schedule expectations.
  • Ability to coordinate with subcontractors.
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
