Occupational Summary:
As a Junior Accountant you will work closely with the Senior Accountant to ensure accurate and timely coding and processing of accounts payable and payroll functions in accordance with government regulations and company policies and procedures. You will perform a wide range of duties and contribute to the overall success of the organization by maintaining up to date accounting records.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive and process accounts payable for multiple companies following established cost coding and approvals processes; reconcile payable invoices and receipts to monthly statements and prep for timely payment
Maintain subcontractor and vendor accounts, ensuring accuracy of data and up to date documentation including but not limited to WCB clearances, PST clearances, insurance information and statutory declarations
Complete accurate monthly reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts
Prepare monthly source deduction filings
Prepare and process biweekly payroll and special pay runs according to established processes and employment standards;
Manage accurate digital and physical filing of accounting documentation, ensuring accuracy and ease of access to financial data.
Prepare monthly reports for Controller and management review
Maintain utmost confidentiality of Company and employee financial and personal data
Additional General Responsibilities:
Perform all duties with a high level of professionalism and attention to detail
Provide support to SBL admin staff, covering brief reception duties as needed in absence of designated reception staff
Provide an excellent level of professional service to SBL customers, subcontractors, vendors, and staff
Qualifications:
Minimum two years of working experience with progressive financial responsibility in a professional services environment
Two years of full cycle accounting experience
University degree or college diploma in accounting or business administration
A satisfactory Criminal Record check will be a precondition of employment
Knowledge and Skills
:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and internal control principals required
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on business issues.
Proficiency in the use of computer programs for accounting and MS Office suite
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
