Reporting to the Area Manager, the role of Journeyperson Powerline Technician is to construct, maintain and repair overhead and underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems. The Powerline Technician must also be able to locate the source of the problem, replace or repair defective power lines and accessories that may have been caused by power disturbance, failure, or storm damage.
Responsibility
Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires;
Install, maintain and repair overhead and underground powerlines and cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers, street lighting and other associated equipment;
Work with various types of heavy equipment including Ariel booms, diggers, backhoes, trackhoes, nodwells, tension stringing equipment, and skid steers;
Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks;
Use of wiring diagrams, voltage indicating devices, and other electrical-testing instruments to identify defective automatic sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring;
Work in a fast-paced outdoor environment, in various weather conditions, including digging, lifting, and moving equipment and material; and
Safely operate and maintain powerlines that may be de-energized and grounded or may remain energized - use of live-line maintenance techniques on energized power line.
Requirements
Registered apprentice, or an Alberta-certified journeyperson, hold a valid and recognized credential
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and at variety of different heights
Must be able to work various shift including weekends and afterhours, which may include travelling to various sites
Must be able to use proper lifting techniques to work with and lift equipment weighing in excess of 55lbs
Must have ability to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations
Must have class 5 Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Must be able to understand and read English
Valid CSTS certification (Construction Safety Training System) preferred and other industry-related safety training certificates such as First Aid, Fall Protection, etc.
Successful completion of Alcohol & Drug testing is a requirement for this position
