We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Journeyperson Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in carpentry and construction, demonstrating expertise in various carpentry techniques and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. This role requires a commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards while completing projects on time and within specifications.
Responsibilities
Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue;
Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools;
Follow established safety rules, policies and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment;
Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures;
Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, and trim, or hardware, using carpenter's hand and power tools;
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge; o Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using tools; o Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saw; o Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required;
Verify trueness of structure, using lasers and levels.
Install pressure treated decks and fence materials using hand tools and power tools. o install, repair or replace wall coverings such as gypsum board.
Plastering and painting a variety of wall coverings using the appropriate compound for the material being used.
Minor electrical changes such as removing or relocating an end device such as a switch, plug or light fixture
Minor plumbing changes such as removing or relocating vanity, toilet, etc. Replacing old damaged water lines with new.
Install a variety of floor coverings such laminate, hardwood, linoleum, vinyl plank, etc.
Qualifications
Journeyperson ticket, registered in the province of Newfoundland
Skilled in using hand and power tools
Experience in construction and blueprint reading
Knowledge of drywall installation and restoration
Familiarity with flooring installation and cabinet installation
Ability to perform heavy lifting and operate construction machinery
Understanding of construction estimating and schematics
Willingness to teach apprentices and sign off on log books
