Advance Wire Products Ltd. (AWP) is North America's leading designer and manufacturer of innovative merchandising solutions for the retail grocery, convenience, and pharmacy market. We are growing and have an immediate requirement for an experienced Journeyman Welder to join our Surrey team as a Charge Hand.
Since 1953, our team has worked with clients across North America to collaboratively solve basic to complex merchandising and display issues. Wood, metal, and plastic for retail, grocery, pharmacy, kiosks, and beyond. From consultation, to manufacturing, to installation, AWP will make the most ambitious display ideas a reality.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Welder to join our team and contribute to the fabrication, repair, and assembly of metal structures and components. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of craftsmanship, technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to safety, delivering work that meets industry standards and project specifications.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Journeyman Welder - Charge Hand is a full-time union position. The successful applicant will become a member of the United Steelworkers Local 2009.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe and efficient set-ups
  • Quality and quantity of work produced in the department
  • Production targets, quality, and training of workmanship
  • Resolving set-up problems as well as basic equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the work area and department
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by manager
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Journeyman welder certification or equivalent recognized credential.
  • Minimum of 5 years of welding experience in industrial, structural, or manufacturing settings.
  • Welding Supervisor experience and related welding tickets
  • Ability to MCAW, GTAW or FCAW in SS, steel, and aluminum
  • Visual and load testing inspection experience and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of Canadian welding standards
  • Understanding of Canadian food safety standards considered an asset
  • Ability to read, and understand weld symbols
  • Strong blueprint and document control experience
  • Must be fluent in dimensional related math in imperial and metric
  • Proficient in the use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to process multiple job orders maintaining scheduled delivery dates
  • Proven attendance, punctuality and safety track record
