The Opportunity:

The National Post is hiring a general assignment reporter who will also serve as our Western Canada correspondent. The National Post is the flagship of the Postmedia Network, Canada's largest news chain which includes the Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette.

What you'll do:

The ideal candidate is an enterprising self-starter and team player with a sense for stories that resonate with the NP's readership, and who is unafraid to challenge conventional wisdom. The candidate should be able to cultivate sources and break news on tight deadlines, while writing in a way that is clear, concise and engaging. Contributes to the daily news file, in-depth features, and Postmedia's What's Up With Alberta newsletter.

Who you are:

You are a self-starting newshound conversant with current trends. Strong writing and communication skills. A natural curiosity that feeds a desire to listen to, learn from and collaborate with readers. An initiative-taking team player who works well with colleagues. You have 3+ years of newsroom experience and an understanding of the Western Canadian perspective. Flexibility to write effectively in breaking news, and short form is essential. Experience and strength in video presentation is an asset.
