The Fellow will maintain the highest level of confidentiality, professionalism and exercise good judgment including the ability to escalate to management when help is required and being able to meet deadlines as set out by their direct manager within a fast-paced corporate environment.What You'll doPrimary Component (80%); Working closely with the Green Municipal Funds Sustainable Buildings Funding Team, a summer fellow would lead on the following tasks:Special Funding Process Improvement Projects:

  • Support ongoing process improvements in application, contracting and disbursement processes with a focus on improving client service including developing and updating internal and external tools and templates
  • Support to team members working on FCMs project to migrate its Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) and Grants and Loans Management System (GLMS) to the Cloud
Research:
  • Conduct research on funded projects using completion and triple bottom line reports as well as occasionally contacting clients to obtain additional project information
  • Support the Programs Team in any ongoing research projects related to Sustainable Buildings Offer design
Funding Support:
  • Review applications for completion and adherence to eligibility criteria for the

  • Review of project progress and completion reports
Secondary Component (20%); Jack Layton Fellowship Project:
  • Work collaboratively within a team of five (7) fellows selected from various FCM departments.
  • Continue the development of a campaign to commemorate Jack Laytons work. This campaign will focus on youth engagement in local communities with an emphasis on participation in municipal issues.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, environment studies, urban planning, engineering, or related fields
  • Working towards a Masters degree in environmental science, environmental studies, urban planning, engineering, or related fields
  • Familiarity with sustainability projects in the municipal sector. Strong research and analytical skills able to conduct rigorous research, summarize findings and present recommendations;
  • Professional writing and material development skills - ability to write succinct reports
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency for buildings is a strong asset
  • Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
Considering a Summer PlacementThis is a 16-week paid summer placement where students will gain hands-on experience in Sustainable Buildings Funding while building valuable professional networks.Duration: MayAugust 2024Compensation: $21.00/hour + 4% vacation pay (subject to statutory deductions)Hours: MayJune: 7.5 hours/day, Monday to Friday ; JulyAugust: 7 hours/day, Monday to Thursday (summer hours)Work Model: Hybrid (virtual & on-site in Ottawa)You must be currently enrolled in Post secondary education to be considered for a Jack Layton Fellowship placementGrow Your Career with FCMThis internship is a great stepping stone for future opportunities at FCM.
