The Program Worker reports to the SDCC Assistant Manager and is responsible for delivering a wide range of prevention and intervention supports by adopting trauma-informed practice, anti-oppressive, feminist, and client-centered principles in conducting client services. The program is designed to facilitate clients' access to Women's ONLY activities for learning, skills development, social connections, domestic violence (DV) & crisis counselling support.
The J4W Programming streams, designed to foster clients' access to prevention and intervention supports include:
WomenConnect:
asocial connections support including arts/crafts, celebrations & summer field trips
Cooking/Baking Class:
one day per month to promote access to healthy meals on a budget
Prep Up:
a 5-week preparatory course on essential work skills for women with CLB 2-3
Tech4Beginners:
a 5-week digital literacy course
Info4Her: a theme-based group learning workshop designed to use a combination of health, parenting, financial, wellness, other life skills, and leadership sessions to empower women
Duties and Accountabilities
Women's ONLY Activities
Be responsible for using multiple outreach and promotional strategies to recruit eligible clients for enrolment and participation
Ensures that the day-to-day implementation of the program is conducted in a professional and efficient manner, with attention to confidentiality and taking into consideration all forms of oppression facing newcomer women
Be responsible for planning and developing activity schedules and theme-based learning contents geared toward life skills development, health and recreation, social connections, and enhanced community awareness
Be responsible for organizing and facilitating weekly Women's ONLY support group meetings
Using a strength-based and goal-oriented model of client services, conduct needs assessment and provide daily supports geared toward building safety, crisis prevention, crisis intervention, and general problem solving
Facilitate connections for the clients to community opportunities, supports, and programs that effectively address preventative, early intervention, and secondary response support needs of the clients
Document all client interactions at all stages using the approved client data management systems
Implement diverse strategies for collecting client feedback, impact stories, including linking and monitoring outcomes for the purposes of program evaluation
Be responsible for preparing interim and final reports (statistical and narrative) for submission, in a timely manner
Using multiple service delivery strategies, including online, in-person, home visit, and telephone services, to facilitate access to programs and services
Conduct client follow-up in order to collect feedback, impact stories, and record outcomes:
Be responsible for recruiting/liaising with guest presenters for workshops
Be responsible for tracking general office/program and cleaning supplies, and submit supply lists to the manager to ensure adequacy of stock at all times
Participate in mandatory Unit meetings, staff training, and other agency events
Perform any other duties related to the position and as may be required in furtherance of the objectives of the program
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
University degree in Social Services or human services, including continuing education aimed at women-centered programs and supports
1-2 years' experience supporting vulnerable newcomer/immigrant/refugee women who experience health issues, abuse, social isolation, and economic hardships
Strong understanding of issues of violence against women and a feminist practice framework
Knowledge of community-based resources and services supporting individuals in navigating complex social systems
Demonstrated experience delivering innovative women's programming, including outreach, workshop development, assessment, implementation, and evaluation
Extensive training, education, and proven experience as they relate to violence against women, crisis intervention, and crisis management
Working knowledge of harm reduction and reduced barrier practices
